What is a Micromount Specimen.

Basically one of natures minerals with crystals so small that they need some kind of magnification to view and appreciate them to their full potential.

Many of the rarer species simply do not grow any bigger but are spectacular when viewed under a microscope.

All of our specimens are tack mounted in to a 28mm square perky box and fully labeled and can now be checked using our own on site Raman technology.

With an ever increasing collection of new, rare and interesting micro specimens we decided to invest in our own custom built Raman 532 Spectrometer to be confident in our descriptions and identifications. and giving customer confidence in their purchase.

The 532 Raman Spectrometer shown under it's calibration set up, the green laser is normally shielded and protective glasse's are worn during operation. This has proved invaluable with the recent identification of a local mineral which had been found and described as " yellow wavellite", in fact it has now shown to be wavellite on quartz, the yellow dusting which was giving it,s yellow colour has now been identified as ferrimolybdite.
